Baltimore Federal Period Eagle Inlay Mahogany Cylinder Desk

A cylinder desk in the Hepplewhite style, executed in flame mahogany veneers and tulip poplar and yellow pine geometric inlay. The center door is inlaid with a heraldic eagle. Invented in the first half of the 18th century, cylinder desks feature a cylindrical cover that slides open to reveal interior storage compartments and a writing surface. The writing surface of this desk pulls out to reveal a stretched leather top. Above the writing surface there is a combination of compartments, shallow drawers, and the center inlaid door is flanked by two secret compartments.
